Why do we shiver when we see a horror film? When there's a knock on the door late at night? When a small girl suddenly has the voice of the devil? When the cannibal talks with an aloof and well-articulated voice and almost whistles the name "Clarice"? The answer is, of course, the sound. Rytmisk Center and PIX have invited the crème de la crème of Danish horror sound as well as international guests to give us their take on why precisely sound is the most powerful device of horror films. The panel's participants include Martin Barnewitz (director of 'Room 205' and 'The Dorm'), Peter Albrechtsen (sound designer of 'Antichrist'), as well as moderator Mads Brügger (DR, 'Red Chapel'). Using film extracts to back up their presentations, they will all present their individual angle on how they work with sound and music to full effect, and subsequently dive deep down into the archives of the horror genre. Pumpehuset will provide the setting for 'The Sound of Horror', which will kick off with a film at 12:30 hrs, continue with a debate at 15:00 and conclude with live sounds from Emil de Waal+Spejderrobot, which will send shivers down the spine of even the most hard-brewed audiences.
