‘Nico, 1988’: Trine Dyrholm portrays Warholian it-girl

Danish actress Trine Dyrholm portrays the legendary cult singer Nico from The Velvet Underground in the new biopic ‘Nico, 1988’ by Susanna Nicchiarelli. Meet Dyrholm and the director at the Danish premiere of ‘Nico, 1988’ on September 29.

The Warholian superstar Nico made a name for herself in The Velvet Underground as a mysterious tall blonde with a deep voice and equal parts masculine and feminine energy. 20 years later fame has turned sour for the singer: her glory days have passed, her career is ragged like the old tour bus she is cruising around Europe in, and the heroine-addicted Nico has lost faith in everything – except her son Ari. The biopic portrays the charismatic artist’s final years, and Trine Dyrholm is raw and real as Nico, giving the character body and soul with her physique, a thick German accent and an amazing voice in her largest character role yet.

‘Nico, 1988’ was recently praised at Venice Film Festival, and Danish audiences are in for a treat when the film hits Danish theatres during CPH PIX. Both Dyrholm and Nicchiarelli will be present at the screening on september 29th.

‘Nico, 1988’ is presented in collaboration with Heartbeats.

The screening on september 29th is also part of the film programme for Italian Day in Grand Teatret, which is presented by The Italian Cultural Institute in Copenhagen and Cinecittà Luce.
